ideas to get me started
My individual art project for 'student as an art maker' is going to be based around Sustainability. I believe that educating students about the importance of being sustainable and looking after the environmnent is vital in 21st century education, to prepare students for their futures. To get my ideas flowing, I started with a brainstorm surrounding sustainability, in order to see the contributions that peoples product consumption has on the wider environment.
'eying in' on my personal interests
For my project to be successful, I want students in my future classrooms to be able to partake in art activities using sustainable resources. I have had lots of experience with painting, drawing and sculpting therefore I want to challenge myself by designing a collection of clothing using environmentally friendly resources. For Christmas I was given a sowing machine but I have never really used it. This project will enable me to teach myself how to sow and create fashion items from pre- loved items found at op shops, hand me downs and recycled products.
This concept surrounds the notion of 'upcycling', as I can take bits and pieces that no longer have a purpose and create items of clothing that promotes reducing, re-using and recycling.
The reason for me basing my project around fashion is that I love shopping and keeping up with modern trends. I often go into shops and think "I could make that", but I have never really tried putting it together so this project will enable me to see if I actually can.
Along with making a collection of items I am going to design a logo to give my fashion label identity. This will be presented on each of the items that I create. I am looking at creating 5 fashion pieces and to take digital photos of my items being worn. My final presentation will display the items in my collection, the logo (tag), along with a photoshoot of the finished products.
